In 2011 I was hired to dismantle, repair and rebuild the 1st floor façade of the Shane’s Candy Shop at 110 Market St in Philadelphia. It had just been bought by the Berley Brothers of Franklin Fountain fame, and they had grand plans to bring the chopped up façade back to its original grandeur. We removed sheet metal that had been tacked on and uncovered arched windows that had been cut apart over the years. I rebuilt these, and fashioned custom curved windows to match the frames. I also made custom curved moldings to replace that which had been removed when the large curved windows had been replaced with cheap flat glass. We brought this historical gem of a building back from the edge, and In 2012 Shane’s won a Pennsylvania Historical Preservation award.
